Last Wednesday, State Rep. Jaime Greene (R-Richmond) recognized Dr. Remington Nevin for his extraordinary leadership as the Medical Director of the St. Clair County Health Department with a legislative tribute signed by herself and a number of other state legislators across the state. Greene’s tribute cites the many impactful initiatives and accomplishments that Dr. Nevin has had throughout his tenure.
“Dr. Nevin has been a phenomenal local leader serving in the St. Clair Health Department, and his impact on our community cannot be overstated,” Greene said. “We are all incredibly fortunate to benefit from not just his skill as a medical practitioner, but also his character and leadership. He has consistently been at the forefront of fights for science-backed medical policies that still respect individual freedom, even when those policies have been unpopular in the medical community. That kind of courage and moral clarity is exactly what we need from our civic leaders, and I wanted to do some small part in recognizing it with a legislative tribute.”
Dr. Nevin has worked to align St. Clair County’s vaccine exemptions with Michigan law in order to ensure parents and families seeking exemptions for medical or religious reasons are not met with hostility from their local health department. Greene, who has been an outspoken advocate for vaccine choice and individual freedom, praised Dr. Nevin for his efforts to improve the county’s vaccine exemption process. Greene’s tribute also lauds Dr. Nevin’s bold, science-based approach to fluoride in public water systems and the unexamined health risks of industrial-scale solar energy development.
“Dr. Nevin’s leadership is defined not only by his brilliance and expertise but by his moral clarity,” Greene’s tribute states. “He has shown what it means to lead with courage when it is difficult, to speak truth when it is inconvenient, and to put people before politics at every turn. He is a tireless defender of the voiceless and a guardian of the public good. His service to St. Clair County reflects the very best traditions of public health and the highest ideals of civic responsibility.”
