State Rep. Bob Bezotte today voted in favor of bipartisan health care reform measures that would increase accessibility, affordability, and quality of care.

“This reform plan puts patients and consumers first, by increasing price transparency and lowering costs that continue to rise year after year,” said Rep. Bezotte. “Expanding access to oral chemotherapy treatments, capping insulin costs, and increasing patient protections are just a few of the measures I was proud to support.”

Some measures within the comprehensive plan would give patients the right to shop for prescriptions from out-of-network providers, require drug manufacturers to submit reports when increasing prescription costs, require hospitals to post digital copies of charge descriptions for public viewing, prohibit gag clauses, and place strong limits on drug manufacturers that try to influence doctors with lavish gifts.

“Medication costs have skyrocketed in recent years – often for lifesaving drugs – forcing many families to make tough choices,” said Rep. Bezotte. “This package addresses the faults within our state’s system and sends a clear message to big pharmaceutical companies that the Legislature will continue putting patients’ interests first.”

A full list of the reforms included in the plan is available here.

The health care reform bills now advance to the Senate for consideration.
